Pediatric Inpatient Mental Health Care for Children
Children who need psychiatric hospitalization require more than an adult program in a smaller setting. PBBHC's planned pediatric inpatient program will provide structured mental health care designed around safety, family engagement and developmentally appropriate skills.
AvailabilityPediatric inpatient mental health care is planned and is not currently presented as open for admission.

What to expect from planned inpatient care for children.
The planned child mental health program is intended for children experiencing significant emotional or behavioral disturbances that require a structured hospital setting. An assessment will consider the child's symptoms, safety, developmental needs, family context and whether inpatient care is the appropriate level of support.
Treatment will emphasize a safe therapeutic structure with clear expectations and developmentally appropriate ways to practice emotional and behavioral skills. The goal is psychiatric stabilization and a stronger foundation for continued support — not to replace the ongoing care a child may need at home, at school or in the community.
Parents and caregivers bring essential knowledge about a child's daily life, behavior, previous treatment and support needs. Family engagement is central to the planned program and will help connect inpatient goals with the child's transition after discharge. Final caregiver participation, consent and communication procedures will be published before opening.
What will set pediatric inpatient care apart.
Four steps once the pediatric program opens.
Confirm age and program availability
Families and referring professionals should call before traveling. Intake will explain the confirmed age range, current capacity and referral requirements.
Share clinical and family information
The screening will review current symptoms, safety concerns, behavior, developmental needs, medical considerations, previous care and the reason hospital treatment is being considered.
Complete a pediatric assessment
A clinical assessment will determine whether inpatient psychiatry is appropriate and whether the program can safely meet the child's needs.
Coordinate consent and admission
If the program is appropriate and capacity is available, intake will explain consent, caregiver communication, belongings and the next steps for beginning treatment.
